Frequently Asked Questions

If your question isn’t answered here, ask by email and I’ll answer it if I can.

How long is a session?

Sessions with me are normally 50 minutes in duration, with the exception of dream groups, which normally run for two hours.

How much do you charge?

My fee for all individual sessions is €75, and my fee for a dream group is €25 per person for 4-8 individuals.

How can I pay?

I can accept cash or cheques – no cards at present. I also accept online payments via Paypal.

Will my health insurance cover this?

Some health insurers are now covering  counselling services provided by IAHIP members – contact your insurance provider to find out more.

What’s your cancellation policy?

You may cancel a session with more than 24 hours’ notice. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or no-shows, incur a full session fee, due at the beginning of the next session.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends very much on your individual situation and the reason you are coming to me.

Therapy sessions are conducted weekly, and if you are coming to therapy for help getting through a difficult time or stressful situation, you might begin to notice significant change in six to twelve sessions. I usually contract with clients for an initial six sessions, to be reviewed after that point.

If you have the intention of addressing deeper issues or longer-lasting problems, you may find that therapy continues to be beneficial far beyond this point. We will review our work together every six weeks to ensure that we are staying on track and that our sessions are still helpful to you.

Soul care sessions and dream coaching sessions are usually conducted monthly, but can be more frequent by arrangement.

Do you offer reduced cost counselling?

I offer a small number of reduced-cost sessions for students and for adults suffering financial hardship. If I do not have a reduced-cost space available, I can put you on a waiting list or refer you to a similar service elsewhere.

What can I expect in a first session?

Contacting a psychotherapist and coming to a first session can be intimidating – but don’t let that put you off. Here’s a blog post I wrote that will let you know what to expect.

Where are you and how can I get there?

My practice is located on Leinster Road, Rathmines. Street parking (pay and display) is available, or else the Swan Centre car park is a five minute walk away. Buses travelling through Rathmines or Harolds Cross (eg 15, 49, 65, 16) are all within a five to ten minute walk.

What's your confidentiality policy?

Material discussed in a session is confidential with three exceptions. If you or somebody else is at risk of serious harm, if a child is at risk, or if I am required by a court order, I will break confidentiality, in accordance with the IAHIP code of ethics and Irish law. Where possible, such a breaking of confidentiality will be discussed with the client in advance.

I'd love to work with my dreams but I just don't dream. Can you help?

The short answer is yes.We all dream several times a night – but many of us just don’t remember. Check out my blog post on how to get started remembering and working with your dreams. And if your dreams are remaining stubbornly hidden, we can also work with daydreams.

Do you offer phone or online sessions?

Yes – while restrictions due to Covid-19 are in place, I am offering phone and online video sessions. I use doxy.me, a secure telemedicine software. It’s very easy to use: I will send you a link in an email and you simply click in when it’s time for your session. Contact me for more details.
